Access statement

We welcome all visitors, members and volunteers. If you would like to discuss specific needs please contact us.

Cars and buses

Free car parking is available at the entrance to the Railway. It is possible to drop off passengers adjacent to the ticket office.

Stagecoach bus No.2 runs past the site, normally on an hourly service when we are open. The bus stop is about 100m from our entrance.

Our coaches have fairly narrow access openings which will not take wheelchairs. There is a step up from the platform to the coach, via a running board at an intermediate height.

Pushchairs are best left at the rear of the platform rather than carried on trains. Motorised chairs and mobility scooters are permitted on the platform, although on busy event days access may be limited.

A coach with wheelchair access is under construction in our workshops - see the photos on this page.

The platform at Becconsall, the main station, is level and paved, with level access to the ticket office. At Delph, at the far end of the line, the ground is gravelled and there is normally no raised platform. Alighting from the train is optional. For Santa Specials, a temporary platform with steps is used (NOTE: For 2020, a platform is not used, and passengers stay on the train to see Santa).

Other areas

Other parts of the premises have a variety of surfaces, including paving, concrete, gravel, stone and grass.  There are no steps, and the ground is generally level.

Toilets with level access are provided between the car park and the ticket office. They include facilities for disabled passengers.

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. There is no charge for travel. On Santa Specials (which are normally fully-booked) we are only able to take assistance dogs.
