What we do

We operate narrow-gauge passenger steam trains on a short run of about 400m from Becconsall station through woodland between the village and the Douglas river, to Delph station. At Becconsall we have a cafe and a shop selling railway-themed gifts and books.

We offer a family-friendly venue for visitors interested in live-steam railways and the preservation of our industrial heritage. As well as five steam engines, we have more than twenty small diesel, petrol and battery locomotives rescued from defunct industrial undertakings.

The Railway is a registered charity operated entirely by volunteers.

Times and tickets

We run trains every Sunday and Bank Holiday from Easter to the end of October, on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the June and October half-term holidays, and every Wednesday in August.

We also operate steam Santa Specials in December.
