WHAT'S ON AT THE RAILWAY IN 2020
WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THAT WITH LANCASHIRE IN TIER 3 LOCKDOWN, THE RAILWAY IS NOW CLOSED
THE INFORMATION BELOW WILL APPLY WHEN
WE ARE ABLE TO RE-OPEN
WE STILL PLAN TO RUN OUR SANTA SPECIALS
On Sundays and Bank Holidays, if there is no special event planned, we run a steam train service about every 30 minutes from 11.30 until 4.30.
The site is always free to enter - we make a charge for train rides (including Drive-a-Diesel when available) and on special event days for some attractions provided by third parties. Parking is free.
Click here for directions to our site, and here for some FAQs on our Covid-19 precautions.
You can just turn up and buy standard-fare tickets at our Station Shop:
Adult £3.50 Child (3 years +) £2.50
Family (2 + 2) £9.00 Concession* £3.00
Infants under 3: Free
* Concessions apply to over 60s, official carers, and Armed Forces in uniform or with ID.
However, if you book in advance online you can receive a discount, with our brand-new Advance Anyday Tickets. These can be used on any service train, including galas and other special events, with the exception of Santa Specials. They are valid without expiry limit and will only be available online.
We hope to put Advance tickets on sale in time for re-opening next year. On arrival at the Railway, please show your Advance tickets at the booking office, either on your phone or a paper copy.
NHS staff and other keyworkers can receive an additional discount on our Advance Tickets by entering the promo code KEYWORKER when ordering. Please bring your work ID with you.
The train departs Becconsall for Delph station every 30-40 minutes. The ride is not long (about 400m) but you can ride as many times as you like on your ticket.
At Delph the engine uncouples from the train and runs round to the rear end, ready to pull the train back to Becconsall.
Don't forget to have a look in our shop at Becconsall Station. As well as a wide variety of railway-themed gifts, books and postcards, hot and cold drinks are available.
COVID-19
These the main differences you will find when you visit us:
-
to allow for additional cleaning, trains will run about every 30 minutes,
-
sanitiser points will be available for you to use,
-
signs and temporary barriers will guide you from the car park to the station shop, which one 'family bubble' at a time can enter,
-
face masks are to be worn in the shop. We can provide masks if required, or if you're just buying tickets, you can do this via a window hatch,
-
a perspex screen will separate you from the shop staff. Please use contactless cards if you can, although cash can also be used. It would help if you only handle goods for sale if you intend to purchase,
-
the lead member of each family bubble will be asked for their name and phone number, to aid virus tracking if later required. Your details will be securely stored only on paper, and destroyed after 21 days,
-
on the platform, staff will call you on to the train, one family bubble per screened compartment,
-
at the far end of the line, please remain seated while the engine runs around the train ready to take it back to Becconsall. Photos with the engine can still be arranged.
We understand this is a little different from the norm, and we appreciate your
co-operation in keeping everyone safe and in maintaining social distancing.
